The Brownie Bargain (in honor of National Brownie Day)
Once upon a kitchen long ago, dragons and humans argued over cocoa beans. The dragons said, “This magic is ours. The bitterness is our fire and the sweetness our secret kindness.” But the humans sighed, “We only wish for a treat to brighten weary days.”

The quarrel might have lasted forever, if not for a wise old dragon named Cocomemnon who loved the smell of baking. He fluttered ponderously down and proposed a bargain: “Bake your brownies, little humans, but always save a square for dragons. In return, we’ll lend our gentle fire to warm your ovens.” The humans agreed, and so the Brownie Bargain was born.
From then on, every brownie carried a spark of dragon magic. The crunchy edges remind all that peace can be fragile. The gooey center holds the heart of trust. A sprinkle of sugar is a dragon’s whisper, soft as falling snow. Families who share brownies together are secretly renewing the pact, whether they know it or not.
But beware—if brownies are never shared with dragons, Cocomemnon stirs. With wings of crumbs and a belly of fudge, he rumbles through kitchens, reminding bakers that cocoa magic is earned, not owned.
So whenever you break a brownie, remember: it isn’t just dessert. It’s a promise that kindness, like chocolate, is sweetest when shared.
